Kuelap, the Fortress of the Cloud Warriors. Kuelap - Amazonas
By Peru
The primary legacy of the Chachapoyas is Kuelap, a massive fortress built around 800 AD, at 10,000 feet above sea level, containing over 400 buildings. Often referred to as “the Machu Picchu of the north,” Kuelap has recently become vastly more accessible thanks to the introduction of a cable car to carry visitors up the mountains.
