Experience the Unique Naked Dance Festival of Bhutan - October 16-19, 2016

Every year, the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan hosts a festival called the Jambay Lhakhang Drup in Bumthang in central Bhutan. This festival is a big tourist attraction and it often leaves first time tourists speechless because of several reasons.

This year, the annual festival will take place in October in Bumthang, which is at an elevation of 2,800m. By October, the winter chill would have set in. And the main attraction of the festival is the naked dance, which is part of a fire ritual.

The naked dance begins the moment the midnight clock strikes. Yes! It would be almost freezing by then.

Naked male dances come out in the open and perform the dance with calculated and practiced precision to the astonishment of the crowd – locals and tourists alike.

Locals believe that the naked dance would ward off evil and bless onlookers and bring good luck.

The four-day festival also showcases the Bhutanese culture, traditional, religion and the way of wife in its richest diversity. People attend the festival dressed in the finest clothes and jewelries.

Tourists can experience Bhutan in a very special angle during the festival.
